About Stir the Sky:

Colorguard and Winterguard now exists in the United States, Canada, Belgium, Holland, Germany, England, Ireland, Korea, Japan, and Africa. More than 150,000 spectators enjoy the activities at WGI Regionals and World Championships annually. More than 600 local competitions are sponsored, yielding an additional 100,000 spectators.

These are the kinds of groups we one day hope to perform in exhibition with. Maine and New England have their own Winterguard circuit through the Maine Band Directors Association (MEBDA) and New England Scholastic Band Association (NESBA) which typically run from January to March.

Stir The Sky, an independent colorguard organization,  was formed in 2011 after visualizing a need to bring the art of Colorguard back to the Central Maine Region.  We are comprised of young men and women ages 12-23, some who have been members of local marching band units. Participants are coached in the art of Flag, Rifle, Saber and other equipment as well as dance which is choreographed to music, hoping to create a phenominal visual experience for judges and spectators.

During competitions, colorguard/winterguard groups will be judged on categories which might include Equipment, Movement, Ensemble and General Effect. Each Colorguard Team receives an audio tape of the judges comments from their performance which will guide them in making changes in areas within their program which may receive lower grading.  The tapes are used as a teaching resource by the Director/Coach of each group.

Stir the Sky is open to ANYONE age 12-23 with a desire to be part of a fantastic and growing sport.  Members will have all colorguard equipment provided for them.  2011-12 Membership fee is $85 per participant (payment options available upon request).  We encourage you to Join the fun!
